This Hyde utility knife is absolutely perfect for opening boxes. The blade only extends 3/8 inches which helps prevent you from cutting into the products stored in your packages. We have a lot of receivables and I've tried many blades and the Hyde is the best I've used.

Pros
- Blade auto-retracts which is great for safety
- Spring loaded thumb switch is smooth and solid with no wiggle
- Construction is very solid (good weight, thick metal)
- Blade extends just enough to cut through packaging tape and not the contents of boxes
- Uses standard razor blades

Cons
- If you need a blade that stays open, this is not for you
- If you need a blade that extends further, this is not for you

I've purchased utility knives at dollar stores and the bargain bins from big box hardware stores and they all were such poor quality they either fell apart or did not work well (switch gets stuck, blade gets unseated). The Hyde is my go-to knife for all my receivables and I don't bother with any other.

Do yourself a favor and spend a few more dollars and get a high quality tool.

The hex end terminates into the round inner channel only 21mm from the crown, as compared to 36mm usable depth in a "regular deep" evolv socket.

The internal channel is bored with a diameter equal to 1/2" drive, rather than the narrowest part of the 15mm hex. Again to compare, an evolv is bored out at 14mm inside.
