Magnum Blind Samurai Knife Review

Pros-
- The color of lacquered wood is done in the perfect shade of red, just like it shows in the picture, its a dark maroon kind of red. I've seen other companies make zatoichi katanas similar to this one and they all have this really bright scarlet color that looks kind of cheesy.
- Although the tang doesn't extend all the way to the end of the handle, it is locked in very securely and its also very sturdy. I tried cutting stacks of cardboard and bottles and it held up fine.
-has a strong carbon steel blade(1045). I was actually surprised because Boker isnt exactly known for their katanas. Blade didn't chip or roll over from multiple cutting tests.
-Blade came very sharp...it arguably had the sharpness of a brand new pocket knife. it passed the "paper test" out of the box. A mere 6 strokes using a a hand knife sharpener made it razor sharp.
- Boker was kind enough to include a fully detailed Katana care manual. It wasn't a necessity but I thought it was nice touch. Other sword companies wouldn't even bother including something like that.

Cons-
- my biggest complaint is that the inside of the saya (scabbard) is lined with wax. Every time I draw the katana out, parts of the blade gets smothered with the wax and it becomes a pain to clean off.It doesn't help that the saya has a very tight fit.
-as mentioned, saya has a very tight fit, you'll find that a lot of times, the blade will accidentally brush or cut into the wood which dulls the blade and coats it with that waxy residue.
- the wirebrushed hamon or temper line is sloppily done.
- Tang doesn't extend all the way to the end of the tsuka or handle...I wouldn't risk using it to cutting anything too hard.
