Factory-Reconditioned Makita LXFD01CW-R 18V Cordless Compact Lithium-Ion 1/2-in Drill-Driver Kit Review

I've used this for a few short projects now. So far so good. Enough torque to tighten a pretty serious lag bolt, and lighter than my old 14.4V drill. The light is nice, too.

Compared to the DeWalt 14.4v drill I used before, the torque limiter is far more useful. A setting of "1" on the scale won't strip a plastic hole with a metal screw, while the lowest torque setting on the DeWalt would strip softwoods.

So for me, this one gets top marks compared at least to a three-year-old DeWalt. I can't comment on the current DeWalt models, though.

This cutter cannot make a square cut in PEX, and is thus useless.

After the blade meets and enters the PEX, the cut starts. As the blade travels through the PEX, it will begin and continue to deviate from center, and often won't even meet the groove on the other side of the tool (striking the tool itself, failing the finish the cut).

I've replicated this problem on both 1/2" Watts branded PEX and 1" Viega branded PEX.

Columbia River Knife and Tool's 1120 Elishewitz Anubis 1120 Razor Edge Knife Review

I can't believe someone said that this knife,"doesn't seem very well suited for about anything, even opening boxes." Dude, really? Even Forrest Gump could cut boxes with this blade. This knife is fantastic! It has a very heavy AUS-8 drop-point blade. The thickness of the blade and the shape both contribute to a very strong point. This would be a great knife for hunting, self defense and yes even opening boxes. The knife has a solid feel in the hand. It is heavier than the average tactical folder, and that's a good thing in the way that a Colt 1911 is heavier than the average Saturday Night Special. I am impressed with the locking mechanism. It is well thought out and sturdy. I have confidence that this knife isn't going to snap closed on me after I've locked it, like some Benchmade folders do. The Zytel handles are going to withstand a lot of abuse, and the design of the knife with the slightly wider gap between the handle scales allow for easier cleaning. Elishewitz is a genius and he's done it again with this great design. Get one today! You will not be disappointed, (as long as you have an IQ that allows you to cut cardboard with sharp objects.)

Case Knives 50003 Soft Leather Belt Sheath Review

This is a good sheath for the trapper (and other medium sized) variety of Case blades. The suede is soft and forms to each knife nicely, the snap is crisp and easy to open. The belt loop is wide enough for a real belt, and not just a 1" suit belt.
The major flaw is there is no liner behind the snap. On other knife sheaths this wouldn't matter much, but you buy a closed sheath of this size, to transport your good trappers/stockmans/russlocks... and they all have such nice one-of-a-kind scales and shields. Pushing on the snap to close the sheath, and yanking on it to open... rubs against the scales (or bolsters, depending on the knife), and leaves small nicks. Over time, it will ruin your knife.
A Bummer, because that's the antithesis of it's function.
But it's an easy fix, a piece of thin rubber matte, or felt, glued to the inside of the sheath.... and presto! All better.
It's not a fatal flaw, but head this warning, and you'll not have to ruin the collectibility of your favorite knife to find that out!
I bought two, and they get used daily (one at a time of course), holding my Bose Sowbelly Stockman with Ebony scales, and my Russlock with sambar stag, respectively. I used a felt disc to cover the inside of the snap, and it actually helps with the tension to hold the knife in place and prevent it from jiggling. Good buy, but READ THIS FIRST!

This gun claims to have low recoil-totally false! My husband bought this gun for me because of the low weight and recoil advertisement, and well after using it for 2 days I could not bend my wrist or grab anything. This gun needs so much force to use the trigger and the recoil is so severe it is unusable. My husband also used it for a day and agreed, and after being in construction for 8 yrs he could not stand it. He has used Porter Cable and Paslode and would never recommend a Dewalt to anyone. In fact he bought me a Paslode today to replace the Dewalt. Horrible gun and be prepared to miss work days due to wrist pain!
