3" Buffer -2400RPM Review

I paint motorcycles and motorcyle parts and cannot say enough good things about this little palm sander. It is the perfect size for polishing paint on tanks and fenders and the variable speed makes it even more user friendly. This little buffer is quite air-efficient and doesn't pound your compressor to death. One thing to remember though is that 1 HP= approx 4.5 CFM so make sure your compressor can keep up with the tool you are trying to power up. I am a female and this buffer is fairly light weight and fits nicely in my hand allowing me a free hand to secure the part I'm working on. The tool itself seems to be of good quality and with diligent oiling I expect it should last a long while. Highly recommend this tool.

I was trying to remove the blower motor from my car's a/c, to clean out the leaves and stuff. There was one screw that was virtually inaccessible. I could get on it with a stubby screwdriver but I couldn't get my hand in there enough to get enough torque. Once I got this flexible driver on it with a bit, the screw came right out. This appears to be a very well made, sturdy tool. Has a great feel in the hand and a very positive grip. It's one of those tools you might use once in great while, but when you need it, it's invaluable.

Bosch 1035VSR 1/2-Inch High-Speed Drill Review

I agree with some other reviewers that the accessory handle is junk. While in use, it slid off the neck and chewed up the bottom of the plastic chuck. The chuck still works smoothly, but has a gnarly ragged edge on the bottom now. Why they cheapened up the handle so much is beyond me. Fortunately, the accessory handle from my old Bosch 18V fits great, other handle is now the trash. Beyond my gripe with the handle, the drill has all the torque you could want, a nice long cord and a really smooth variable-speed trigger.

I had a Grizzy mini combination mill and engine lathe at work, which was a beast at roughly 400 pounds, with mediocre accuracy. It was time to trade up and I picked the Sherline, which I was familiar with back in college. It is still a tremendous workhorse; I get great accuracy, a wide turning speed range, and the accessory package has more than enough components to get started to say the least (The thread cutting kit is finally coming in handy).

If you are planning on purchasing a small lathe for accurate metal, plastic and woodworking, I highly recommend this machine. It is lightweight (roughly 45 pounds), which means you can store it away when not in use. However, this also means that it is critical that you are able to bolt or clamp the lathe to a surface before you begin your work.

It is well worth the money and if taken care of, will last for decades.

Schrade SHD1 8" Fix Blade Knife with Stag Handle and Leather Sheath Review

This knife sells online for about half a c-note. (Can't post obvious price numbers here because Amazon filters them.) I got it for half of that, and at that price, it's an incredible bargain. Still a good buy for half a Benjy.

It's a drop-point hunter with a blade just under 4". The handle is just about the same length and may feel too short for those who like long handles. It is very compact in length, yet broad and hand-filling. This is just a great all-around belt knife pattern.

Much of what you are paying for here is the genuine antler of the handle slabs. It's a handsome material, nicely finished. There are cheaper materials that are more uniform, stable, and durable: polymers like Delrin, Zytel, and Kraton, and laminates like G10 and Micarta, to name a few. But if you like the look and feel of stag, here it is, done very well and at a low price.

The fat, contoured handle slabs and thinner nickel-silver bolsters make for a knife that's very comfortable and secure in a variety of grips. Fans of Bob Loveless will notice a big influence here.

Construction is full-tang, meaning the tang goes the entire length and width of the handle, and the tang is tapered as well, which is an unexpectedly nice touch.

The sheath is a simple, deep "pouch" style (i.e., no retaining straps) in dark brown leather embossed with a basketweave pattern. It has a substantial welt. It's nice looking and nice to carry, quite serviceable, a cut above the usual Schrade sheath, although at this price, you don't expect a truly high-quality leather sheath.

The blade is highly polished, a real mirror finish. My example was ground quite accurately. It arrives with a pretty usable edge that could use some refinement, if you know how to sharpen. Otherwise, it can be used as-is.

The main thing I would change is the grind. It's hollow-ground, and I'd prefer flat or convex. Most users would probably never notice or even think about this.

I wouldn't expect better-than-average edge-holding, as this is a very run-of-the-mill stainless steel (neighborhood of 440A). But I've found Schrade's stainless to be very tough, and it's easy to put a screaming sharp edge on it.

At about the same price, you could opt for a Beretta Loveless drop-point hunter in (arguably) slightly better AUS8 steel. It has the full-height flat grind that I like, but the handle is synthetic. The same knife in a natural handle material costs at least twice as much.

The Kershaw Bear Hunter II and Antelope Hunter II are also great hunters in AUS8 with full-height flat grinds and synthetic handles. Those will run you half as much as this Schrade or the Beretta Loveless.

A very comparable knife at the same price or a bit lower is the Bear Feathermate in India Stag Bone. Note that this is bone that is machined to look like antler, not real antler like this Schrade. It is hollow-ground also, made in the USA, and not as highly finished as this Schrade, but functionally equivalent.

If you know what you're getting into with antler handles on an inexpensive knife, then you really can't beat the Schrade SHD-1. It's a real pleasure to handle and carry.
