The product is heavy for a bench top unit. Over 80 pounds. Workmanship was pretty good, and some test cuts in pine were good. I typically work in red oak, so I will see how it goes when I begin an end table project in the next week or so. I did not find the burr problems on the chisels that some reviewers on other sites mentioned. If found, these can be easily cleaned up with a wet stone.

I have always had good luck when dealing with Woodcraft. Like anywhere else, you have to watch your prices, but I will consider paying a slight premium to get the better service they provide.

I just received the Coleman Campfire Natural Wood Fixed Blade Knife and felt it fell short of the quality I expected Coleman. I know the knife cost less than $25, but I still expected Coleman to deliver the best quality for the money. Sure the knife was sharp, and I appreciate the full length tang construction, but the wood to metal fit was horrible, the fire steel was very small and barely usable, and the guard is not finished on the blade side. It will do for a hard use knife to bounce around the bottom of the tool bag, but I won't be wearing it on my belt any time soon.

I have had this knife for half a year now and it is awesome. I use if primarily for opening packages and cards but it has been able to help with many other uses too. It also does not seem to lose its sharpness easily. The weight is also very satisfying - it sits comfortably in your hand and does not feel plasticy or fake like many others do. It is a quality knife and after 6 months of heavy use it was still sharp enough to get accidentally cut. I would highly recommend this knife.

not really sure what it is or what i thought i was. i wanted a small screwdriver for my computer components and thought this would be convenient. the tip does not seem to be as durable as metal, and is showing signs of early erosion. it isn't ergonomic or as comfortable to use as i dreamed. oh well. maybe there is a specific use for this in which it will excel that i am unaware of. but i will probably not use this again, i have plenty of phillips scewdrivers that i like.

Ontario 1400 ASEK Survival Knife System (Black) Review

I must say I really like this knife. The grip is great and feels extremely secure in your hand. The sheath is very well made and feels of great quality. The knife was designed to be a pilot survival knife if the plane ever went down, so the saw on the backside of the blade was designed to cut through aluminum while the serration on the edge is likely for cutting through a shoulder harness. The blade has a textured black matte (Zinc phosphate) finish that's meant to make it anti-reflective (i.e. survival mode behind enemy lines). The guard itself isn't just rubber, but metal covered with the same rubber that surrounds the handle. The weighted butt cap has a point which makes breaking through glass (or plexiglass) easy and overall makes the balance a bit handle heavy which I like. The only negative is that the non-serrated top part of the blade comes way too dull. Easy enough to resolve as it just requires some sharpening, but it should come sharp from the factory in my opinion. I won't take a star away from my rating because of that however since it's easy enough to correct.

Tack Hammer with Wood Handle, 7oz Review

What does that mean, "...solid for springy work?"

I'm restoring 38 double-hung sash windows. I bought this to assist in tacking "spring bronze strips" (brass weather-stripping) to the tracks of these old windows to stop the wind. These old window openings have a "jamb" on the sides (where the tracks are) and behind the jamb is a void for the cast-iron counter-weights to travel up and down with the window movement. So in a tall window (5 feet), when you are driving the 1" tacks in at around the halfway point of the vertical height, the jamb is pretty bouncy... it is just a 7/8" piece of board, flexing under the hammer. So at 7 ounces, it is a little heavier than most tack hammers, and that gives you the oomph! to keep the tack driving in rather than the whole board bouncing your hammer back at you. Momentum, and all of that.

I once had a boss in Fort St. John, B.C., who used to say, "Never use force; just go to a bigger hammer." This is the principle I am trying to describe in real terms. The extra weight works wonders.

The other nice thing about this (but takes a little getting used to) is that the front edge (furthest from your hand) of the striking surface is rounded. So if you are trying to drive a tack in a very tight corner, the tack is going to want to bend over away from the hammer. This is there for a purpose; when you are driving your tack home that last smack, you are striking with the smaller part of the head that is flat, and this bit of round keeps you from smacking a dent into your work. So my brass strips are staying "pristine" much more than they were with a claw hammer.

I really like it. (Oh... have some Goof Off or similar handy to get all the glue and labels off of it!)
