The Ranger RD6 is tough hardcore knife. It is a GREAT utility tool for all the jobs around the camp site. The thick blade is good for chopping and the pummel is large enough to hammer with. This is a little bit heavy for the ultra-lite hiker but you have other options for that. I used this on short backpacking trips to chop and baton small 3-4 inch thick logs as well as those more brutal car camping chores. The powder coating did get a little scratched but overall is holding up well. The Micarta Handles provide a good positive grip even when wet. I did go ahead and purchase a Kydex sheath with the money I saved. Not as sexy as some of those higher priced custom knives but gets the job done. OVERALL SOLID KNIFE for under a $100.00.
