I really wanted to get a higher end model using IGBTs instead of the older MOSFET switching technology on this, but couldn't justify the cost. A second major consideration is the unit, an inverter type, will run on 120vac--still waiting to wire a 240 outlet I can use. I've never used a plasma torch (but do weld), and found it fairly straightforward. The "manual", a half dozen printed pages, that came with it was very poor Chinglish without much relation to anything, but the PDF from the website was thorough and complete.
I did call support, a couple times, mostly to clear up my ignorance. Had to leave a message each time, but he got back to me within a couple minutes, and was _very_ helpful, knowledgeable, and local, at least to the US. The current can be set on the front panel, but it didn't go to the rated 50amps, so I called. Voltage issue. My inverter welder's output is 140amp @120v VS 150amp @240, and I expected similar with the plasma unit. Not! Higher working voltage limits the amps more.
Support went over the pros and cons of this unit--advised a separate ground connected to the 13 mm lug on the back--I used a jumper to a water pipe--he said this was important. It's briefly mentioned in the manual. He also recommended taking the case off (easy), and checking all connections and fittings. Most were fine, but a few needed tightening. There's a wire standoff for the nozzle--he doesn't use it--said if it is used, to bend it so the orifice is almost touching the work piece. I took it off. Also, put an inline drier on the air supply. I was testing with a small pancake compressor, but kept running out of air. Getting the pressure right is important.
I do homebrewing and got it for cutting beer kegs to make vessels from--16 gage, 1/16" stainless steel. Also for some custom artistic metal work down the road a bit. Again, support said it was old technology, but for my purposes it should work fine.
After making a jig, and digging out my larger compressor, I cut the top off a keg. It worked great! Prior to cutting, I tested on a piece of thick stainless. 25 amps and about 35 psi worked well. I took a 12" circle off the top--had to go back over a couple spots that either didn't get cut, or re-welded together. But pretty clean, quick, did what I wanted. Threw the breaker once, so I backed off from 25 amps to 20. When I went to clean up, fool that I am, I found I'd left the ground clamp on my test piece, and hadn't grounded my work piece! I'm amazed how well it performed anyway!
So far so good. It's what I was hoping for and I'm quite satisfied. Recommended for the home hobbyist.
